San Dorligo della Valle ((スロベニア語:Dolina)) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Trieste in the Italian region Friuli-Venezia Giulia, located about southeast of Trieste, on the border with Slovenia. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 6,019 and an area of .〔All demographics and other statistics: Italian statistical institute Istat.〕 According to the 1971 census, 70.5% of the population are ethnic Slovenes, while the rest are mostly Italians. == Name == The Slovene name of the town, Dolina, means 'valley'. This was the official name in Italian, as well, until it was renamed to San Dorligo Della Valle in 1923, as part of the policies of Fascist Italianization. In the local Italian Triestine dialect, the village has always been referred to simply as ''Dolina''. In 2003, the denomination Dolina was adopted as the official name of the settlement in both languages;〔http://www.provincia.trieste.it/web/guest/comuni/san-dorligo-della-valle;jsessionid=8EF58A63CD98F3D62D4664CBF57217FF〕 however, the municipality is still called San Dorligo della Valle in Italian.
